About the Foundation

The Ricky Ryp Foundation was founded in 2012 for the purpose of continuing Rick Rypien’s legacy through charitable works. During his years in Junior and Pro hockey Rick was involved with many charities in the towns and cities he played in. The purpose of this Foundation is to continue with these actions by providing support to individuals and/or groups characterized into two categories. The “Local Talent” category will provide funding and/or equipment to help those further themselves in academics, athletics or the arts. The intentions of the “Those in Need” category is to provide funding and assistance to individuals and/or families who suffer hardship through either illness, injury or other personal struggles.  In 2012, three events were hosted by the Foundation:

1) A golf tournament and charity auction took place in August which drew over 200 golfers in a two day event.  Read More Here!

Together for Tosia

Tosia, a three year old from Lethbridge, suffered a stroke when she was only two days old leaving her with cerebral palsy, hemiparesis, symptomatic epilepsy and significant motor delays. In her first month, Tosia fought for her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She was also diagnosed with dislocated hips right after birth. Tosia is under constant care of physiotherapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist as well as a group of doctors. Despite all the physiotherapy and other care, Tosia is neither sitting nor walking. A surgery available at the St.Louis Missouri's Children's Hospital called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) is the first step to help Tosia walk. The Ricky Ryp Foundation has donated $10,000 to help make her dream come true. The total raised is over $55,000 and her first surgery is booked at the end of April. You can learn more about Tosia at her facebook page Together for Tosia.
