About the Foundation

The Ricky Ryp Foundation was founded in 2012 for the purpose of continuing Rick Rypien’s legacy through charitable works. During his years in Junior and Pro hockey Rick was involved with many charities in the towns and cities he played in. The purpose of this Foundation is to continue with these actions by providing support to individuals and/or groups characterized into two categories. The “Local Talent” category will provide funding and/or equipment to help those further themselves in academics, athletics or the arts. The intentions of the “Those in Need” category is to provide funding and assistance to individuals and/or families who suffer hardship through either illness, injury or other personal struggles.  In 2012, three events were hosted by the Foundation:

1) A golf tournament and charity auction took place in August which drew over 200 golfers in a two day event.  Read More Here!

Head Shaving raises money for Ricky Ryp Foundation

Leading into the 2012 golf tournament Kyle Draper proposed to his colleagues at CNRL in Ft. McMurray that he would shave his head to raise money for the Ricky Ryp Foundation. Word got around to the crews and as the donations poured in, Darcy Draper committed to shaving his head and mustache if the pot reached $2000. The donations kept coming and 4 more employees incrementally stepped up to raise the bar. Tanner Sagrafena at $4000, Doug Simoneau $5000 for his head and mustache, Blair Bartlett $8000 for his head and mustache and finally Chris Bish shaved his head when the pot reached $10,000. In total just shy of $11,000 was raised in the 3 days. We would like to recognize the 6 who sacrificed their hair, B crew, D crew and the other contributors at CNRL for their generous donations.
